January 19, 2010 IT LIG Meeting Leading indicators for project management: Leading indicators are derived from measures of processes that are breaking down. They come from any aspect of project management. A team that is underperforming, broken communications between teams or between customer and teams, lack of synchronization between teams, failure to plan for invention and discovery. It's a long list. There is a method for determining what to watch and how to watch for these breakdowns. There are techniques for specific breakdowns. While the talk cannot cover all the patterns in 40 minutes, we can outline the method and discuss some that are critical to the group. Bob is publishing the paper with a fuller explanation in January. Speaker Bob Ferguson, PMP Bob Fergusonis a Sr. Member of the Technical Staff at the Software EngineeringInstitute. He is a PMP and Sr. Member of IEEE. He works on project andprogram measurement and regularly consults with DOD programs.
