A look back at the LIM in Detroit
What would make your PMI membership more valuable to you this year?
More opportunities to connect? Practical tools to advance your career? Greater exposure to emerging trends? These are the kinds of questions that our PMI Pittsburgh chapter leaders were poised to bring back from the Leadership Institute Meeting and Global Summit ee attended this week in Detroit. Beyond the sessions and speakers, these events created opportunities to bring fresh ideas back to our chapter—and turn them into experiences that serve our members.
There was so much energy in the room at the Project Management Institute Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) in Detroit this week. Pittsburgh Chapter leaders are coming back with fresh perspectives, new connections, and plenty of ideas we’re excited to build on.
A few themes especially stood out for us:
- Volunteer engagement – Creating meaningful, accessible ways for members to get involved, contribute, and give back.
- Member outreach and community building – Strengthening connections across our chapter, keeping our circles open so others can join, and creating simple, consistent rituals that make it easier to connect and build trust.
- Culture, curiosity, and connection – Strong cultures show up in how we meet, what we celebrate, what we share, and how we operate. We were challenged to stay curious, break out of our silos, and actively seek perspectives and feedback beyond our usual circles.
- Think M.O.R.E. about project success – PMI’s M.O.R.E. practices encourage project professionals to Manage Perceptions, take Ownership, Relentlessly Reassess Project Parameters, and Expand Perspective. It’s about looking beyond simply delivering requirements and focusing more broadly on stakeholder value, outcomes, and the perspectives we bring to our work. Explore PMI’s 40 Proven M.O.R.E. Practices Associated with Project Success.
- Automated workflows – Finding opportunities to simplify processes, reduce administrative effort, and give our volunteers more time to focus on work that creates value for our members.
But the biggest question coming out of LIM isn’t just what did we learn? It’s what do our members need from us next?
We’d love your feedback.
What questions do you have about PMI Pittsburgh? What would you like to learn more about? Are you curious about volunteering or becoming more involved? Do you have an idea that could make our chapter or our project management community stronger?
Share your thoughts in the comments. We’d love to hear from you as we turn these ideas into action.
