Volunteer as a PMI Pittsburgh Chapter Board member?
 

Volunteering as a Board member provides a rewarding personal and professional experience. We get to provide guidance, events both educational and social, and fun in the Project Management space.

Please know these roles are not worked in isolation. Each VP has directors assisting with their work and they are excited to help. We especially need help as an Education VP, Membership VP and Outreach VP. Though our guideline for Board service asks for a 2-year director or board experience, we welcome all interested parties. And, the nomination committee will work with you to be happy and successful in your interested role.

Serving in one of these roles will provide both professional and personal benefits w/r/t resume accomplishments along with social and learning opportunities.

Today, we are calling for all Board Self-Nominations and Nominations, please consider one of the following roles for the next two years (1/1/24 – 12/31/25)

PRESIDENT: Serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter and of the Board, and shall perform such duties as are customary for presiding officers, including making all required appointments with the approval of the Board. The PRESIDENT shall also serve as a member ex-officio with the right to participate and vote on all committees except the Nominating Committee.

Term = 1/1/24- 12/31/25

VP OF FINANCE: Responsible for maintaining and presenting all financial records required for chapter operation in accordance with Pittsburgh Chapter and Bylaws.

VP OF EDUCATION: Responsible for assessing the ongoing educational needs of the Chapter and works to develop and provide seminars, PMI Certification training, and other training sessions in accordance with Chapter Bylaws, and Policies.

VP OF MEMBERSHIP: Responsible for addressing the needs of chapter membership, including service delivery, recruiting, and retaining and recognizing members, in accordance with Chapter Bylaws, and Policies.

SPECIAL ELECTION FOR VP OF OUTREACH: Responsible for facilitating activities outside the customary functions of the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter, interacting with community, corporate and academic organizations, in accordance with Chapter Bylaws, and Policies.

What to do if I want to run for an open Board position?

Please send an MS Word Document to elections@pittsburghpmi.org with the following details:

1. The title of the Board Position that you are interested in
2. Your sentiment about why you want to work in this capacity with the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter [no more than 50 words]
3. Details from your experience that support your ability to work this Board position
4. A photo of you in PDF format

What do I do if I want to run for the board, yet I’m not quite sure?

If you are interested in standing for the election and want to discuss your options, please contact George Starrett at elections@pittsburghpmi.org and we’ll talk through the next steps including speaking with current Board members.

How long do I have to make up my mind?

The deadline to submit your intentions is Wednesday, June 21, 2023
Election candidates will be finalized by Friday, June 30, 2023.

What if I want to take on more responsibility, but am not quite ready for a Board position?

If you would like to take a more active role but are not quite ready for the Board, consider assisting a Board member in a Director position.

Directors assist Board members in one of the functional areas and are appointed by the Board. A list of the open Director positions can be found on the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter website under the " Get Involved" heading; Volunteer Opportunities.

How do prospective Board candidates run a campaign?

Campaigning will be electronic only and hosted on the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter website.

Each open board space will contain a picture of the candidate and their biographies. This information will be due no later than Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

It will be available for viewing by Chapter members before and during the three-week August voting period.

How will I know if I’ve been accepted as a Board candidate?

As soon as your interest is made known, our Nomination Committee will be speaking to you. You will receive an email from elections@pittsburghpmi.org.
