PMI empowers project professionals around the globe to excel in project management practices through our growing global community, knowledge sharing, and best-in-class certifications—driving positive change in organizations and communities.  Recent results of the PMI Pulse of the Profession survey reveal that the number of project professionals who say social impact is a concern for their organization is even higher than the number of people who rated social impact as a personal priority.     

Project management in the non-profit sector involves the application of project management principles and practices to achieve their goals – goals that are not intended to maximize profit but to provide benefit to people and develop new initiatives for the betterment of society. Nonprofit organizations are typically mission-driven and operate with limited resources, which makes effective project management critical to their success. 

The PMI Pittsburgh chapter is proud to have members who drive positive change through their work in the non-profit sector. This support includes health care, local government, and children’s education. Join our June 13 chapter meeting and learn about how these project professionals use project management tools and practices in roles, how these roles may differ from other sectors, and the benefits the non-profit organizations have realized.

Kyle is an emerging technologies strategy consultant for the international nonprofit consulting firm Future Matters. Kyle supports clients working to reduce risks from artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and climate change.

Angelique Kim , Project Manager, SAE International

Angelique has been an intrapreneur in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors for more than 15 years. As a Project Manager at SAE International, she has managed two products primarily used by committee volunteers from industry in the development and utilization of standards.

Christine Smith, Program Director, UPMC Home Healthcare and Family Hospice

Christine is a focused transformational leader and problem solver with 14 years of experience leading and facilitating a wide array of projects within not-for-profit healthcare and community care settings. In her role as Program Director at UPMC Home Healthcare and Family Hospice, Christine has spearheaded the integration of formal project management methodologies, including traditional, waterfall, and agile approaches.

Alyssa De Santis Figiel, Director of Alumni Affairs, College of Allied Health Sciences, East Carolina University

During her more than nine years of professional work, Alyssa leads customer-centric, mission-driven projects for an academic college training rehabilitation specialists. Some of her favorite projects include an annual scholarship celebration for donors, as well as recipients of academic merit awards and a quarterly newsletter with content from across her college’s eight departments.

Although not required for recertification, earning Giving Back PDUs is a great way to expand your horizons.
