Ruth Christine Lechler is a Research Associate at the University of Basel in Switzerland and part of the Project Management Group at WU Vienna, where she is completing her doctoral thesis. She researches and teaches on the topics of motivation in projects, project management, and volunteering. Ruth holds a degree in Management, Organizational Studies, and Cultural Theory from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and is a Stanford-trained design thinker. Ruth has a background in strategy consulting and leading transformation projects in various industries.

Empowering the Next Generation: Motivating Young Professionals in Project Work

Young professionals are increasingly looking for a specific work environment characterized by opportunities for learning, meaningfulness and achievement. Projects' outcomes offer the kind of work environment that fits the expectations of young professionals quite well. In this session, Ruth will share the findings from the PMI-funded research white paper she co-authored, The Future of Project Work, and she will discuss what motivates young professionals to work on projects. We will explore the motivators that sustain their engagement and discuss strategies for project and team leaders to support young professionals.
