PITTSBURGH - DIVERSITY LIG

Power Skills

Intergenerational Collaboration—All Ages Welcome!

Have you ever thought about how many generations of people you work with on a given day or week?  Did you know, for the first time in history, five generations are working together? FIVE.  And here’s a news flash to some:  The oldest don’t hold all of the wisdom cards.

You are encouraged to read “Wise Eyes/Fresh Eyes” in Southwest Airline’s Jan 2019 magazine, about baby boomer Chip Conley’s 50-something move from a successful boutique hotel business to Airbnb.  Conley learned, first-hand, the value of his millennial coworkers—and leaders—and strove to create a culture of mutual mentorship.

As part of PMI Pittsburgh’s 2019 diversity initiative, we will discuss this multigenerational phenomenon and consider its implications in the project management field.  We will watch Conley’s Sept 2018 TED Talk “What Baby Boomers can learn from Millennials at work – and vice versa”
